About

South Wye Police Boxing Academy

A friendly club for all ages and abilities. Currently the youngest boxer is 6, and the oldest 60, years of age.

Many people come to the club just to keep fit and make new friends and never box competitively. There is, however, a thriving boxing squad which has frequently travelled to other clubs and entered National competitions.

The cost is currently just £5 per session / £20 per month through Direct Debit.

Due to recommendations relating to COVID issues, we ask all participants to sign up to the Coacha App.

Details on Facebook or available from our administration coach.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own boxing gloves. However, if required, they can be bought from the club but can also be borrowed for sessions at the club initially.

The volunteer coaches at the club are all DBS / CRB checked and are accredited by the governing body England Boxing or are working towards the accreditation.

Our Work

In The Community

The Academy has close connections with the local Police team. Organising sessions for schools and colleges teaching boxing skills and basing sessions around valuable life skills such as self-control, decision making and above all health issues generally.

Furthermore, South Wye Police Boxing Academy seeks to occupy young people productively. In turn reducing local crime through the support and education of young people.

In the school summer holidays the Academy, in conjunction with West Mercia Police and Herefordshire Council, runs the highly successful “Fit & Fed” free-of-charge programme for youngsters aged 11-16. The youngsters are able to enjoy an hour of boxing training, every day, followed by a nutritious lunch prepared by professional catering staff.

There are timetabled non-contact training sessions at the club with pupils that help with many issues. Issues such as hate crime and an outlet for anger issues / management, training sessions tackling issues around antisocial behaviour in addition to many community issues wrapped around discipline and respect. ENGAGING

& Supporting Locally

South Wye Boxing Academy endeavours to occupy young people productively. Reducing local crime through support and education. In that regard, the club has been especially fortunate to have had close links with the local police team over the years. In conjunction with the local police, the club runs its highly successful “Fit and Fed” initiative. This offers the chance to young people in the community to have free boxing sessions during the school holidays followed by a free lunch.

Above all, South Wye Boxing Academy is extremely grateful for all the support it receives from local and national organisations. Without this support this community boxing club, run by volunteers, would not be able to operate.

In 2023 South Wye Police Boxing Academy was nominated to receive The High Sheriff of Herefordshire Award for Community Service
